What is up with this guy? (guys please answer)?

he's one of my best buds, nd he texts me for hours everyday. i think he's starting to like me, but when i jokingly asked if we could hang out he said that he was in canada, which would be impossible because based off of where we live and how it was like three hours after school was over, he couldnt possibly get there. i need a guys point of view, what does this mean? lol and before i get some answer telling me im a stupid middle schooler or w/e, im actually in high school. im just curious of how other people may interpret his behaviors.
