I think I bought a copy of a book for critics only???

No, advanced uncorected proofs are for people who have something to do with the distrobution of books, for example if a bookstore gets sent a uncorrected book, the owner reads it. If he/she likes it and thinks it will sell good they order more copies before the book comes out so the publishers no about how many to make.
